SANDSONGS COURSE INCLUDES 5 WORKSHOPS Each session Alliance members materials fee Session 1: October 6 – November 10 (No Class Oct 20) Session 2: November 17 – December 15 Session 3: January 12 – February 9 OR TAKE only ONE CLASS each - Alliance member materials: a class Workshop #1 TRIANGULAR WEAVING weave a small shawl on a “foam core” loom Weave with one continuous strand making warp and weft at the same time Loom is yours to keep, use over and over Bring novelty yarns to add in Workshop #2 ART TO WEAR Make a Ruana Jacket or shawl of silk and other fabrics Create an original work of art to wear with print, paint, resist, discharge and dye You may bring a garment to decorate or construct one from strips of painted fabrics and silks Manipulate various techniques to bring clothing from ho hum to an art statement Workshop #3: YARN PAINTING for weavers, knitters, embroiderers, quilters Handpaint cotton, silk, tencel, rayon and other natural fibers Dye, hand paint, stencil, stamp or print color gradations with fiber- reactive dyes Bring a prepared warp or paint yarns for that WOW in your work Workshop #4: SURFACE DESIGN: create fabrics for a wall hanging, quilt, table mat or bag Learn to heat transfer and manipulate disperse dyes—may use your photos or computer generated designs Create a collection of small fabrics in a variety of techniques including dry felting Bring an iron and scissors Workshop #5: FINISHING AND EMBELLISHMENTS create an “International Bag” May bring back art fabrics created in other workshops for finishing and decorative touches Techniques: Guatemalan Figure Eight, Navajo Twinning, Mexican Guided Half Hitch, Bolivian Pom Pom, Scandinavian Finger Weave and Chinese Monkey Button Instructor: Roseline Young Fiber Artist
